Territory War 2, with on-line play!

It's been a long time coming, but I think you'll agree it was well worth it. And hey, what better way to celebrate than with some big news of my own?

You might remember one of my games from last year, a worms-themed battle game called Territory WAR. I've spent a lot of time since then working on a new engine. Smoother game-play, better graphics (drawn by poxpower), more weapons, new stages, even destructible terrain! Oh, and did I mention you can play ONLINE?

That's right, I'm teaming up with the X-Gen team (Stick Arena Online, Defend Your Castle) and using their MMOcha server software to bring you Territory WAR Online! You'll be able to register an account, play people across the world, and track all your stats!

It's quite a large undertaking, and there's much work to be done, but I couldn't help making some kind of announcement about it. This is easily the largest flash project I've undertaken, and also the reason why you haven't seen much from me this year aside from Escape Games. I'm hoping to get it completed by year's end, but we'll see how that goes. I'll post more info and some screens on my site when it gets further along.

Lastly, big thanks go to MindChamber for helping me create a new logo/intro animation. You can see a tiny bit of it in my user picture, but I'm saving the full thing for later. : )

Territory War was alright (cough*AIsucked*cough), but I can't wait for Territory War 2, mostly because you'll have a new engine and smoother gameplay. Also hoping for improved AI.

I was reluctant to say this, but there will be no AI... you will only be able to fight full matches against other online players. There will be a 1p 'target test' type of mode again though.

See, here's the thing. If I was writing AI off the old engine, it wouldn't be too bad. But the new engine includes: destructible terrain, and the ability to build new parts of the terrain. It's simply almost impossible me to write competent AI that could manage such an engine. I mean, let's say part of the stage gets blown away, and the only option is to build a platform to cross. I would have to make the AI realize that a un-crossable gap exists, a bridge needs to be built, where to build it, and how to cross it.

In other words, way too much for a one-man programming team : )

I saw you playing it at Mod Meat, and it looks sweet indeed.

Sounds great my man, all sounds great.
Online play should be great, bit bummed about the lack of AI, but like you said, it would be a damn bloody hard task for a one man team like yourself.
Still, its obviously going to be awsome. Hell the first one was awsome and second time round you've got Xgen studios on your side as well :)
Hope TW's still gonna be themed around Sticks... They made the game for me :P

Lookin forward to seeing the new intro/preloader combo as well. Again, Mindchambers a great artist, so it should be pretty damn slick.

Um...You do plan on submitting that to Newgrounds, right?

Of course! It will have to be a demo version though. The only full version will be hosted on Xgen, since the game will have integrated stat-tracking with the Xgen database.

Wow, fuckin' awesome! I've been hyped on Territory War 2 just about even since I heard that there would be online play . And now that I see that you're teaming up with Pox, who is damn good artist, and XGen Studios I know it's going to be a 100% solid game.

Keep us updated on how it's coming along. :)

Oh, my brain didn't take in the part where you said there will be destructible terrain. You're right, enemy AI would be hard to do. Multiplayer is better anyway, since live human beings are matched up against other people and it's more interesting that way :)
